Statement by Supporters of the Iran Anti-Imperialist Left Alliance —
January 19, 2026 —
What has manifested itself in Iran today in the form of protests, disturbances, and organized insecurity is not the product of a temporary or random process, but rather a continuation of years of targeted pressure, economic war, crippling sanctions, psychological operations, and continuous efforts by the United States of America and its allies to undermine the economic, social, and political foundations of the country. In the long run, this policy has deliberately targeted people’s livelihoods, deepened social divisions, and It has tried to turn genuine grievances into leverage for destabilization and foreign intervention. Without a structural and deliberate understanding of this Chinese context, it would be incomplete and misleading to understand what has happened in recent days.
Along the lines of this structural stratification and accumulated pressures, what has emerged in Iran in recent days has taken shape in the context of deep economic and social crises: unbridled inflation, deliberate weakening of the national currency, the erosion of the livelihoods of the masses of the people, and the continuation of unjust policies that have placed the main burden of the crisis on the shoulders of the working class and the lower middle classes, who have been paying the price for years at the same time as destructive foreign sanctions and policies. In such a situation, the emergence of social discontent is predictable and understandable. However, the course of events has shown that these real grievances were quickly exposed to kidnapping, confiscation, and diversion by forces whose interests are tied not to responding to the demands of the people, but to destabilizing the country and paving the way for foreign intervention.
The protests soon lost their way and gradually turned into another scene. Within days of the protests, there were clear signs of violent organizing, the arrival of trained, armed and directed elements, and a change in the nature of the actions. Attacks on law enforcement and relief forces, burning of banks and shops the destruction of fire and emergency vehicles, attacks on public and even religious places, and targeted attempts to kill and intimidate the public have nothing to do with social protest. These actions are clear examples of organized rioting and street terrorism.
The anti-imperialist left explicitly declares: Protest is the right of the people, but riots and organized violence against people’s lives and property and the security of the country are crimes.
Ignoring this distinction is not only a betrayal of the truth, but also an unwitting alignment with a dangerous project that has been pursued against Iran for years. What we witnessed was part of a well-known scenario of internal destabilization, a scenario that begins with economic pressure and currency war, intensifies with media and psychological operations, and in the meantime, tries to bring the country to the brink with riots and street violence The security collapse to pave the way for foreign intervention or the imposition of political capitulation.
This Senate of Rio is neither new nor hidden. From Latin America to the Middle East, from Libya and Syria to Iraq and Afghanistan, imperialism has repeatedly tried to turn countries into a field of destruction by hijacking the demands of the people and riding on their suffering. Iran, due to its strategic geopolitical position, its position in the equations of energy and regional security, and its resistance to domination and imposed order, has always been one of the main goals of this project.
In the meantime, the role of foreign interference cannot and should not be hidden. The U.S. government’s unabashed and unabashed support for rioters, repeated threats, and attempts to legitimize street violence are a clear example of interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign country. Donald Trump’s recent and unequivocal statement that “it is time for Iran’s leadership to change” is not only a blatant declaration of a policy of regime change, but also a direct affront to sovereignty and it is the will of the Iranian nation. Determining the political path, the system of governance, and the leadership of the country is a matter that belongs exclusively to the Iranian people, and not to foreign governments and not to the president of a state whose agenda is full of wars, sanctions, coups, and the destruction of nations. Such brazen statements by a government that claim to be a democracy and freedom are a source of shame for a world order that is either silent in the face of this blatant aggression or that it justifies it. The anti-imperialist left considers these positions as a clear violation of national sovereignty, disrespect for the dignity of the Iranian nation, and the continuation of the gangster and lawless policy that has led the world towards instability and war and strongly condemns it.
However, the experience of these days has once again revealed an important truth: the
Iranian nation, despite heavy pressures, did not go along with the project of destabilization. The majority of society drew the line between protest and destruction and did not allow its suffering to become a tool of foreign interference. The steadfastness and sacrifice of the security and police forces, who prevented the country from plunging into catastrophic scenarios by paying the cost of their lives, are part of this national resistance. It deserves appreciation and support.
The anti-imperialist left, while resolutely defending the national security and territorial integrity of the country, emphasizes that sustainable security cannot be achieved without social justice. Confronting riots and street terrorism will remain incomplete and fragile if it is not accompanied by a decisive confrontation with economic terrorism, curbing rentier oligarchy, ending destructive currency games, and making a real turn in economic policies in favor of the masses of the people. Defending the homeland is not only meaningful in the military arenas, but also in ensuring justice, preserving human dignity, and restoring social hope, because these are the real foundations of national security and barriers, they are resistant to destabilization and interference.
We call for an immediate response to the deteriorating economic situation and a decisive fight against the oligarchs by the government authorities. We also call on all forces loyal to independence, the goals of the Islamic Revolution, and the protection of Iran’s territorial integrity—regardless of ideological, political and social differences—to prioritize unity of action and national solidarity over any other consideration at this critical historical juncture. Avoiding narrow-mindedness, standing with the people and the country, and thwarting the conspiracies of the enemies, is a national and historical duty today.
While appreciating the international solidarity of the progressive, anti-imperialist and justice-seeking governments, parties, and forces of the world with the Iranian people, we declare that the anti-imperialist left will seriously pursue the exposure of imperialist and Zionist interference in Iran’s internal affairs as its urgent and continuous task at the international level. We stand against organized attempts to distort the facts, reverse social protests, and We will not remain silent to legitimize chaos, destabilization and foreign interference. We will not allow the truth to fall victim to the media war and the resistance of an independent nation to be hidden under the rubble of false narratives and hegemonic aims. Building and strengthening global solidarity with the Iranian people is an integral part of the struggle against the aggressive policies and lawlessness of imperialism in today’s world.
We warn: Iran is not a testing ground for destabilization projects.
Any intervention, threat, or support for violence will be met with national and historical resistance from the Iranian people.
In this moment of danger, defending the homeland, defending the people, and defending independence is a common duty.
